GCA Poker: River Card Club Celebrates a Successful Festival Debut

For two days, the Grand Casino Aš (GCA) was all about the River Card Club Festival. From August 21 through 22, a total of four tournaments took place, with the highlight being the €130 + 20 Main Event and its €40,000 guaranteed prize pool.

The festival kicked off with the €70 + 10 Opener, played with 20,000 chips and 20-minute levels, featuring a guaranteed prize pool of €8,000. 90 players bought in, with 36 re-buys, bringing the total prize pool to €8,820. The top 18 places were paid. Action at the final table was fast-paced, before a long heads-up match between H4Prox and 99Red finally ended with H4Prox claiming victory and taking home €2,155.

Running parallel to the Opener was the €70 + 10 PLO event, which, with 50 starters and 17 re-entries, failed to reach the €5,000 guarantee. The final five agreed to a deal here, which secured Emin Ögrük the victory and €954.

On Saturday, the Megastack Turbo and the Main Event marked the final two tournaments. The €60 + 10 Megastack Turbo, played with 100,000 chips and fast 15-minute levels, provided the evening’s thrills. The €5,000 guarantee was significantly exceeded, as 120 players bought in and re-entered a total of 36 times. A total of €9,360 ended up in the prize pool. The top prize wasn’t contested all the way to the end; in heads-up play, Brudi (€1,925) and MCA (€1,610) reached an agreement.

The finale and highlight was the €130 + 20 River Card Club Main Event with a whopping €40,000 guarantee. This guarantee was also surpassed, with 190 starters and 119 re-entries, €40,170 ended up in the prize pool, distributed among the top 42 paid places.

At the final table, it took a while for the first spot to open up, but then things moved quickly. The remaining trio then agreed to a deal, though €930 was still played out. Matt, who was already the clear chip leader at the time of the deal, ultimately prevailed and walked away with €8,265.

For the River Card Club, it was a successful first festival at the GCA, and we can definitely look forward to another edition. At the GCA, however, things will now continue with a classic week before the €200,000 GTD Meetup Poker Festival kicks off the fall poker season. Cash games start with blinds of €1/2 NLH and €2/2 PLO. You can find the latest updates on the GCA poker lineup in the Facebook group; full details are available at grandcasinoas.eu.
