This past spring, the Grand Casino Aš (GCA) hosted the European Championship of Amateur Poker (ECOAP), and now it’s hosting APAT Germany this weekend. €140,000 in prize money, numerous tournaments, and the team competition await.
In poker, as in many other games and sports, the amateur and recreational scene is many times larger than the professional one. The Amateur Poker Association & Tour (APAT) caters specifically to this amateur and recreational player base. APAT was founded during the poker boom of 2006 in the United Kingdom. Since then, there have been numerous events in England, Ireland, Austria, Malta, the Czech Republic, and even Las Vegas.
The highlight of the year is the annual World Championship of Amateur Poker (WCOAP), followed by the European Championship of Amateur Poker (ECOAP). In addition, there are many national events that are held regularly, primarily in England but also in Malta. On the European mainland, APAT events are less common but are held regularly at the GCA. And this weekend, it’s that time again.
The two centerpieces of the festival are the German Team Championship and, of course, the €130 + 20 National NLH Championship (€100,000 GTD). Several teams of four players each have registered for the GTC, and who knows—maybe one or two more teams will come together at the last minute.
The festival kicks off today with the €60 + 10 APAT Turbo Opener (€5,000 GTD/50k/15′), and the Main Event starts tomorrow. On Friday, in addition to the Main Event, the €270 + 30 APAT High Roller (€30,000 GTD/100k/30′) is on the schedule, along with the €130 + 20 National PLO Championship (50k/20′). On Saturday, the NLH Championship Event will naturally take center stage, just as it will on Sunday, since the grand final will be played with 40-minute levels.
There will also be several side events to add some variety. Over the years, many friendships have formed among the APAT regulars, so you can look forward to a festival weekend among friends featuring exciting tournaments. Paul Panther will, of course, be back in action, bringing the livestreams right to your screens at home.
Cash games will start at blinds of €1/2 NLH and €2/2 PLO. You can find the latest updates on GCA Poker’s offerings in the Facebook group, and all details are available at grandcasinoas.eu. By the way—with the €25 Blue All-in Experience, you essentially get a daily “worry-free” package: unlimited buffet, soft drinks, beer, wine, and coffee. Plus, you’ll earn points toward cash back.
