UKGC Fines L&L Europe £900,000

Withdrawal problems and breaches of anti-money laundering requirements. L&L Europe Ltd must pay a £900,000 fine in the United Kingdom.

The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has announced a new penalty on their website. L&L Europe Ltd, which operates seven online casinos in the United Kingdom, including allbritishcasino.com, casinocasino.com and hypercasino.com, has been fined £900,000.

The company is accused of imposing a term and condition stating that customers could request only one withdrawal at a time and could not submit another request until the first had been processed. In addition, manually reviewing every fifth or tenth withdrawal for some customers meant they had to provide further information before their withdrawals could be processed. The UKGC also identified anti-money laundering failures and social responsibility failings.

“A basic expectation is that when you have winnings you can withdraw those swiftly without hinderance from unfair terms and conditions or the operator failing to carry out checks at an earlier stage. That is essential to consumer trust. There may be occasions where a gambling business can ask consumers for information at withdrawal to fulfil legal obligations, but this was not the case here.

“We hope this case sends a clear reminder to the industry that, although much of our enforcement action frequently relates to anti-money laundering and social responsibility failings, we will not hesitate to act when we see incidents of gambling not being fair and open,” said Sue Young, Executive Director of Operations at the UKGC.
