The 15th Wallonia Poker Series (WPS) at the Circus Casino Resort Namur has wrapped up, and the Dutch once again dominated the field. Following a deal, there was also a Dutch one-two finish in the €550 Main Event.
In general, the Dutch are well represented at the events in Namur, as are the French and, of course, the Belgians. They’re joined by players from Luxembourg and Germany, and—depending on the festival—a more or less international crowd. So far this year, all festivals have significantly exceeded their prize pool guarantees, but this time around, the €330 Super Side (€250,000 GTD) and the €1,100 High Roller (€200,000 GTD).
Toward the end of the festival, however, the numbers picked up significantly, and the €550 Main Event (€500,000 GTD) drew 1,317 entries, bringing €592,650 into the prize pool. The winner would have received €80,000, but a deal ultimately secured the victory for Sjors Heldens from the Netherlands, who took home €62,890 plus a €2,200 CPS ticket.
The next festival at Casino Namur is practically just around the corner, as the Pure Poker Festival—featuring its €250 Main Event (€250,000 GTD)—is scheduled for August 23–30. Eleven days of action will follow from September 17 to 27 at the Belgian Poker Championship. As always, cash games start at €2.5/€2.5 NLH and €5/5 PLO. Details on the full (poker) lineup and the option to buy tickets can be found at circus-poker.com, where you’ll also find live coverage as usual—the password is “poker.”
