R.I.P. Andreas Hoivold

For a long time, Andreas Hoivold had health problems, and now the EPT Dortmund Champion has passed away at the age of just 54.Andreas Hoivold was one of the most well-known poker personalities in his home country of Norway, not least because of his EPT title in 2007 in Dortmund. He participated in High Stakes Poker, played in the Poker Million, and most recently won a trophy at the Norges Mesterskapet in Bratislava in 2024. Andreas was beloved for spreading good vibes, whether at the poker table or away from it. It was 2007 when poker was just reaching its peak in Germany. Sebastian Ruthenberg was one of the shooting stars, aiming for the EPT title in Dortmund. In the end, Seb finished in 3rd place, while Andreas Hoivold took the title and subsequently appeared at even more events. For several years, Andreas Hoivold also lived in Las Vegas but later moved back to Norway.Due to a car accident in the 1990s, which he narrowly survived, he had many health issues and struggled with pain medication dependency for a long time. Nevertheless, he was one of those who always had a positive outlook on life, which he also spread at the poker tables.Despite his health problems, he was planning his next (poker) trip. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be; he succumbed to multiple organ failure on June 17, 2026. Rest in peace, Andreas!
