The Costa Rica Poker Festival has been held since 2025. The tournament is organized by Costa Rican poker promoter Ivonne Montealegre, who previously launched the Malta Poker Festival and the Punta Cana Poker Classic, among other events. Her goal is to establish Costa Rica as an attractive destination for international live poker tournaments. The festival takes place in the San José metropolitan area. The venue is the Kickers Poker Club, located inside the Sheraton San José Hotel. Following a successful second edition in January 2026, the festival will return for its third edition in February 2027.
From February 1 through 8, 2027, eight days of poker action await participants in Costa Rica. The centerpiece of the festival is the $530 + $70 Costa Rica Grand Event, which features a $200,000 guarantee. A total of five starting flights are scheduled for the Grand Event. Day 1A begins on Wednesday, February 3, at 2:00 p.m. This will be followed by Day 1B on Thursday, Day 1C and Day 1D Turbo on Friday, and Day 1E on Saturday. The second day of the tournament, featuring the final table, is scheduled for Sunday, February 7. Players will start the Grand Event with 50,000 chips. The regular starting days will be played with a 40-minute blind structure, while the Turbo flight will feature 20-minute levels. Re-entries are unlimited.
The Costa Rica Poker Festival 2027 also has plenty to offer beyond the Main Event. On Monday, February 1, a $220 + $30 Copa Tica NL Hold’em will kick off the festival. In addition, there will be several satellites for the Grand Event, where players can secure a seat for $60 + $10. Other highlights include the $200 + $100 + $30 Pura Vida Bounty on Tuesday, February 2. The Tico Mystery Bounty, which is played over two days, also kicks off on Friday. On Saturday, the schedule features additional tournaments, including the $220 + $30 LIPS Costa Rica Championship—hosted by Lupe Soto—the $110 + $20 CR High Roller Satellite, and the Grand Event’s Turbo Flight. In addition to the Grand Event’s final day, Sunday will feature a $200 + $30 Seniors Event and a $1,000 + $100 CR High Roller. The series wraps up on Monday with the $220 + $30 CR Cup and the $220 + $30 CR Fest Last Chance.
