CAPT Innsbruck: The First CAPT Featuring Mixed Games

Stefan Eggeberger won the Unicorn Trophy at the CAPT Seefeld. But he’s certainly also a strong contender for the one-of-a-kind TORSE Trophy, which will be up for grabs at the CAPT Innsbruck from November 2 to 8. For the first time, the Casinos Austria Poker Tour (CAPT) will feature mixed games at Casino Innsbruck—as well as a €1,000 + 100 Main Event.

TORSE Trophy CAPT InnsbruckAlthough Casinos Austria has a long tradition of Seven Card Stud—and that tradition is upheld in both tournaments and cash games—Austria’s casinos aren’t the first thing that comes to mind when people talk about mixed games. Thanks in no small part to The Festival, the more exotic variants are making a comeback, and more and more casinos are offering more than just the same old NLH and PLO.

Marcel Pipal, poker manager at Casinos Seefeld and Innsbruck, and Thomas Lamatsch, poker manager at Casinos Austria, like to try new things, and since there’s growing demand for mixed games, they’ve now chosen Casino Innsbruck as the second stop on the CAPT for this purpose. That’s because Casino Innsbruck offers many advantages—it’s right next to the hotel, centrally located in Innsbruck, and easily accessible, even for day trips from Munich, Salzburg, Bregenz, or Bolzano. And there are also some who enjoy the 4-star comfort of the wellness hotels in Seefeld and then only have to head down the mountain to end up at the poker table.

While Stud is often still very much an “old men’s game,” the average age among players of mixed games is clearly getting younger. After all, Stefan Eggenberger, Fabian Bartuschk, and Niclas Thumm can also often be found at the table playing games with more cards in hand. Most recently, the average age at the Stud European Championship at Casino Velden was already significantly lower than in previous years. So the revival of the “other” variants has definitely begun.

And that’s exactly what the CAPT Innsbruck is all about. The event kicks off on November 2 with the €300 + 30 Limit Seven-Card Stud Championship (10k/10k/20k – 25′), followed on Tuesday by the OFC Pineapple (40k/25′)—for which Fabian Bartuschk has already firmly staked his claim to the trophy. Also on the schedule is the €300 + 30 PLO Hi-Lo (50k/20′). On Wednesday, the action continues with the classic €500 + 50 PLO (50k/25′), before the two-day €500 + 50 TORSE (50k/30′) kicks off in the evening. In this tournament, the winner will receive a custom-made trophy. The action continues on Thursday with the €200 + 30 NLH/PLO Mix (50k/20′), followed on Friday by the €200 + 30 PLO 5-Card (50k/20′).

Of course, the CAPT Innsbruck isn’t just for mixed-game players—it’s also for NLH fans. From November 2 through 8, there will be a daily NLH tournament. The series kicks off with the €300 + 30 Classic (30k/25′), followed by the €200 + 100 + 30 PKO (30k/25) and the €200 + 30 Deepstack Freezeout (100k/20′).

On Thursday, November 5, the €1,000 + 100 Main Event (100k/60′) begins with the first flight, followed by the second on Friday. On Saturday, late registration for Day 2 will remain open for two levels, and the final takes place on Sunday. In addition, Saturday will feature not only the €200 + 30 Deepstack Freezeout (100k/15), but also the two-day €500 + 50 CAPT Million Flight, followed by the 30-minute flight on Sunday.

In other words—if you like mixed games, come to Innsbruck. If you like NLH, come to Innsbruck. If you want to qualify for the CAPT Million, come to Innsbruck. And cash games will be played, too: NLH starting at €1/3, PLO starting at €2/2, and everything else upon request. There are certainly a few hotel deals available as well; for those, Poker Manager Marcel Pipal is the right person to contact at marcel.pipal@casinos.at or by phone at +43 664 8104400.
