888 currently supplies the software for the US platform of the World Series of Poker Online. However, the contract expires this year, and Caesars Entertainment is looking for a new partner.
The WSOP launched as an online poker room in the US in 2013. While online sports betting and casino gaming are available in many states, poker has struggled to gain a foothold. Online poker is legal in nine states, with operators active in six of them.
WSOP.com currently operates in Pennsylvania, Michigan, New Jersey and Nevada. Thanks to the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement (MSIGA), players from these states can compete at the same tables.
888 has provided the software for WSOP Online in the US since its launch. In 2021, the partnership was extended for another five years. However, as Anuj Arora reports exclusively for Pokerfuse, the contract is apparently not set to be renewed.
Caesars Entertainment is looking for a Senior Product Manager for its poker vertical. According to the job listing, the successful candidate will “drive the integration between the Caesars iGaming platform and the poker platform vendor”. It is not yet known who will supply the poker software.
GGPoker might seem like the obvious choice. However, although NSUS – the company behind the poker room – acquired the WSOP, Caesars remains responsible for decisions regarding WSOP Online in the US. GGPoker is also not active in the US market. According to Pokerfuse, a smaller software provider, PokerLab, could secure the contract.
