Grosvenor Casinos Must Pay a Multi‑Million‑Pound Fine in the UK

The gambling authority in the United Kingdom has imposed a £5 million fine on Grosvenor Casinos and the Gaming Group.

“Anti-money laundering and social responsibility failures” – that is one justification on the UK Gambling Commission’s website. Among other things, the casinos failed to verify a player who lost £50,000. Another guest won £260,000 and gambled away a quarter of a million within twelve days, without the required checks being carried out.

“Larger enforcement cases are often associated with online gambling but, as today’s announcement shows, the risks of anti-money laundering and social responsibility failures are equally alive in the land-based sector.

We would advise all premises-based operators to take a careful look at this case and ensure their own business is not making the same mistakes, and therefore they do not face costly and inevitable Commission action,” said Sue Young, Executive Director of Operations at the UKGC.

The penalty is directed at three operators held by Rank Group PLC. Grosvenor Casinos Limited, Grosvenor Casinos (GC) Limited, and Gaming Group Limited operate 51 casinos in Great Britain.
