GGPoker Bans Heads-Up Displays

Screen Guard, WAD and a ban on heads-up displays. GGPoker has introduced a series of measures to make the game safer.

Cheaters leave no stone unturned in their attempts to get their hands on honest players’ money. The recent Trojan scandal shows that malicious software can find its way onto computers in a variety of ways.

GGPoker has taken steps to provide players with even greater protection. Under the Security section in Game Settings, users can now activate Screen Guard, Connection Monitor, Process Scan and DNS Check.

These features are only active while the poker client is running and are designed to prevent cheaters from using remote-access software to view tables and hole cards. Screen Guard can also protect the GG Wallet and other sensitive data if required.

The other tools are designed to identify malicious software. However, the poker room emphasises that these measures provide only an additional layer of protection. All users should continue to protect their computers with antivirus software and secure their GGPoker accounts with two-factor authentication (2FA).

Win-Rate Anomaly Detection (WAD) is another new measure that runs in the background. “WAD looks for players whose decisions are correct far more often than any honest playing style allows,” reads a comment on GGPoker’s blog.

Collusion, ghosting, botting and the use of real-time assistance tools are already the focus of standard security checks across the industry. With WAD, however, the poker room is expanding its arsenal to identify cheaters more quickly.

GGPoker states that its security measures extend well beyond the virtual felt. The poker room works with authorities and the community. In the most recent case, funds were traced and law enforcement agencies were notified.

Another change is the ban on poker software and automation tools. The ban includes PokerTracker 4, Holdem Manager 3, Jurojin, DriveHUD 2, Hand2Note, Equilab and other third-party software. “Each one handles your information in ways we cannot see or control, and each one is another point where your information can be exposed,” the explanation on the blog states.
